This sausage orzo skillet recipe is one of my go tos for the midweek question, “What’s for dinner?”
This is seriously simple to whip up for the family and tastes like you’ve been working on it all day.
The browned sausage mixed with healthy handfuls of fresh baby spinach and cremini mushrooms, mixed in with sautéed yellow onion…..yum!
Tips for this yummy Italian sausage orzo skillet dinner:
- Be sure to brown the sausage sufficiently in the skillet. The dish is better with very browned meat. It adds to the multiple textures in this dish.
- For mushrooms, my default is always cremini (I prefer the already sliced packages for a timesaver), but you may use white button mushrooms as well.
I love sausage orzo recipes in general, but this is my favorite. The slight crunchiness of the Italian sausage pieces mixed with the smooth orzo pasta is a great combo.
The ingredients in this sausage orzo skillet dinner could also work for a sausage orzo soup. I will be trying this in a soup version soon and will keep you posted. Really can’t go wrong when sausage and orzo are the main ingredients in a recipe.
I’m writing this close to the beginning of Fall. This is when I start to dream of warm soups for the cooler temps coming in the winter.
Hopefully, you and your family will be fans of this sausage orzo dinner recipe as well!
